Peachie and Pysen!
I have two Peach Faced Love Birds. Peachie and Pysen. I got them december first 1996 and they were very similar. They told us on the store which one was the male and which one was the female. Dad drove me home with the birds in the back seat. I was watching them all the time, so that I would know which one was the male and which one was the female. But when we came home, and I told my family who was the male and who was the female, my dad said that I must have got it wrong in the car somehow. That one was biggest. Of course that's the male, according to my dad's opinion. So we gave them the name Romeo and Julia...
More than one year later, Romeo laid eggs...
Then we started wondering. Maybe I was right after all?
We were surfing a little on the Internet about birds till we found a Lovebird site were we could read about the differences. One of them was that the female is bigger than the male...
We changed Romeo's name to Peachie because of the name "Peach Faced Love Bird" and when she ruffles up her feathers she looks like a little peach.
Julia changed name to Pysen, because he's
such a thin little boy, just like Arthur in Disney's cartoon
movie "The sword in the stone", and Pysen is the
nickname they call him in the swedish version. The eggs they laid
weren't fertilized.
Probably because we separated between them for a while. We
thought that Pysen had some kind of disease when he started drop
feathers around the neck.
We later discovered that they used it to build their nest, when
they didn't have anything else. We buried the eggs in the garden.
But Peachie and Pysen laid eggs again in
August.
