First Impression!
My
neighbor is probably the ugliest woman alive!
She must be about one hundred years old!
She has a long, pokey nose with two warts on it and her face is
all wrinkled up!
Every kid on the block is afraid of her.
She has a laugh that could wake the dead...at least that's what
my friend says...
We all think, actually, we know that she is a real witch!
And of course, she lives next door to me!
I always open my front door, just a little bit, to check if she
is anywhere near, before I dare to go outside.
One day I was walking up the staircase of my house, I was on my
way home from school.
Suddenly I tripped and hit my knee hard on the stone steps.
It hurt a lot and I started to cry.
I heard a door open and someones footsteps on the stairs.
"Great! I thought, "someone is coming to help me
get up."
I heard a voice above me: "Oh dear, what happened to you,
sweetie?"
I turned around and there she was. She was so ugly and so
frightening that I just wanted to get out of there, I wanted to
run home fast and hide under my bed, but I couldn't, I was too
scared.
"Let me help you up", she said with a soft voice that
surprised me.
She grabbed my arm and helped me up.
I remember that although she was ugly looking, her eyes had
something special in them, something I can't describe, I liked it
though, and I wasn't afraid anymore.
"Do you want to come with me to my apartment for some
cookies and lemon juice?"
I nodded.
I followed her home, and while she got the cookies and juice
ready, I looked around her apartment.
It didn't look anything like what my friends said, It was
actually quite nice in there. I saw some pictures of laughing
little kids on a shelf.
The woman came out of the kitchen with the cookies and juice.
"I see you are looking at the pictures of my
grandchildren", she said. "Pretty cute, huh?"
"Grandchildren?" I thought, "She has
grandchildren?"
I sat down at the table to eat the cookies.
"Eat as much as you please", she said with a smile on
her face.
"Thank you", I said, with my mouth full of cookies.
"I guess she isn't so bad after all..."
