The Scream Of Death!
(The second half)

"This is boring." said Beth to her brothers. "What are we going to do these three weeks when our parents are on that trip to Paris?"

This is the year 2000, and in the big house lives Mike with his wife Sally and three kids; Daniel 13, Beth 11 and Jack 9. They were all alone in the big house for tree weeks because their parents were on a business trip and the baby sitter would only come the next day.

"I think we should look for a hammer," said Jack. "Maybe she will come."

"Do you really believe in that silly story we heard when we were little?" asked Beth.

"Well", said Jack, "maybe she is real. Maybe she will come today, the 12:th of February, like grandfather said. He believes in it."

"But dad says it's dumb", said Daniel.

"Well", said Jack, a bit hurt, "then maybe we can play "hide and go seek" instead?"

"Yeah," said Beth. "Let's play "hide and go seek"!"

The four kids used to play "hide and go seek" a lot. The house was so big, so there were a lot of hiding places.

Daniel was looking for Jack. He had already found Beth.

"Aaaaaaahh!!!" They heard someone scream.

"That's Jack's voice!" said Beth and ran down the stairs with Daniel.

Jack had tried to climb into the fireplace, but fell, and was now sitting on the floor full of soot, crying.

"Poor Jack." said Beth. "You better go upstairs to the bathroom and get cleaned up."

"Hang on Beth." said Daniel, "Take a look at this."

Behind Jack was a small book.

"It must have fallen out of the fire place together with Jack," said Daniel.

"Maybe there is something more in there," said Beth.

Daniel reached into the fireplace and found a picture of a woman.

"Who do you think that is?" asked Jack.

Daniel looked on the back of the picture.

"Hey, there is something written here on the back:
"I wish you would just die and leave me and my siblings alone for good. As David said in his fight with Sara".

"Who is David and Sara?" asked Beth.

"Well," said Daniel, "I don't know who Sara is, but I know that David is our long dead relative who bought this house and lived in it from the year 1700, I'm not really sure when he died, though."

"Check if there is something else in there," said Beth.

Daniel did and he found something - a hammer!

********************

They went to Daniel's room to read the book.
It was some kind of diary and in it was the whole story about the murder, which took place in "Old Village" February 12, 1700. There was also something in there that David hadn't told anyone else, not even his siblings; before Sara died she said she would take revenge on his entire family!

"How terrible," said Beth, "to live with that witch and then kill her and run away!"

"So the ghost that comes every hundred years is that Sara character...?"

"Yeah, I guess. So the story is true after all." said Daniel.

"But grandpa said that the first time when she came it was enough just to show her the hammer, the second time it didn't scare her so they lift it and the third time they had to hit it through her."

"Do you remember the part of the story when the ghost said that next time she would come, as in this time, none of that stuff would help. She said that this time she would destroy us totally."

"So the only way to prevent that from happening is to destroy her first!"

"But how will we do that?" asked Jack "Even if we would figure out a way to do it we can't really be sure that she will actually be destroyed by it, all the other times she only disappeared, but came back after another hundred years."

"It has to be some kind of special force to make her disappear for good"

The three kids all turned their eyes to the hammer that Daniel had put on his desk.

"That hammer must be the hammer!"

"Oh man. So we are gonna show it to her, lift it and hit it through her?" asked Beth.

"Yeah," said Daniel "But how do we know that it will actually destroy her? We only have one chance and if we fail... she will kill us!"

"I wish we could be sure," said Beth "but I don't see how."

"Maybe we could just tell her to leave us alone," said Jack in a try to make them laugh a little.

" JACK, YOU ARE A GENIUS!!!" yelled Daniel.

"Well, I know.... how?"

"Remember the picture of that woman?"

"The one in the fire place."

"Exactly! In the back of it, it was written: "I wish you would just die and leave me and my siblings alone for good. As David said in his fight with Sara".

"Yeah...?"

"Well, don't you get it?! In the diary David mentioned that he had a fight with Sara a couple of days before they killed her. She is obviously afraid of the hammer they killed her with so maybe she will also be afraid of the words that David said to he a couple of days before!"

"I think you are right, Daniel," said Beth.

"So," said Jack. "We are gonna show her the hammer, lift it, hit it trough her and tell her that we wish she would just die and leave us alone?"

"Yeah," said Daniel.

"Sounds like a pretty good plan to me," said Jack.

********************

Daniel, Beth and Jack waited patiently near the barn.
Suddenly they heard a scream, a scream of death.
They looked at each other with fear, but yet, with a determined look on their faces.

Suddenly the ghost appeared out of nowhere with her long white dress and evil, red, glowing eyes.

"Ha, ha, ha," the ghost laughed. "So you are dared to come! Now I am going to DESTROY YOU!!!

It started raining and blowing. Her white dress was blowing in the strong wind.

"You are wrong! We are going to destroy you!!!" said Daniel with a strong voice that surprised him.

"Ha, ha, ha! A stupid hammer, I suppose? That won't help you this time! I am stronger and more powerful now then ever!!! I WILL HAVE MY FINAL REVENGE!!!!!"

"It's not just a hammer. It's THE hammer!!!"

Daniel showed her the hammer as Beth and Jack yelled:

"Die and leave us alone for good!!! Die and leave us alone for good!!! DIE AND LEAVE US ALONE FOR GOOD!!!!!"

Daniel got closer to the ghost, raised the hammer and hit it through her many times.
The ghost screamed and screamed and the wind started blowing in circles around her. The wind got closer to her until she circled around with it. The circle of wind got smaller and smaller until it was gone and so was the ghost with the scream of death!

********************

A couple of days later the four kid's parents came home. Their trip to Paris had been postponed because of the windy weather...

"Did anything exiting happen during the days we were gone? asked Mike his kids. "Did grandpa’s story about the ghost come true?" he laughed.

"Hm...well," said Daniel. "Let's go into the living room. You'll need to sit down for this one!"

"It all started when we played "hide and go seek"...." Daniel told them the whole story about the ghost with the scream of death and how they destroyed her.

"This can't be true," said Sally in shock.

"It is mom," answered Jack. "It really is."

Beth went to Daniel's room to get the stuff they found in the fireplace.

"Look," said Beth. "This is the diary, this is the hammer and this is the picture."

They all looked at the picture, but Sara's face wasn't there any more. I was blank!

"How...?"

But Beth didn't finish her sentence. In the back of the picture were the words: "Thank you".
